BAROSSA AND BEYOND: BAROSSA SIAM

The Barossa; a well-recognised hub of wineries that collectively produce some of Australia’s finest wines and a hotspot for wine lovers from across the globe. And while the Barossa has made its name for its contribution to the thriving Australian wine industry, we have so many unique and special restaurants, bars and shops that are well worth the visit if you’ve made your way to the Barossa.

And that’s where I come in, as a Barossa Valley enthusiast and a local for over 10 years, I’m also a bit of a self-proclaimed foodie and love getting out to see what’s new in the region. So, I’ll be using these blogs to share my personal favourite spots in the Barossa that I believe are well-worth checking out.

First cab off the rank is one of my personal favourites, which has continued to impress me since opening their doors back 2015 – Barossa Siam!

Chris and Watcharin (Puk) are the dynamic duo running the show at Barossa Siam in the main street of Angaston in the Barossa Valley, and doing a brilliant job I might add. These two have radically different backgrounds but share a passion for fine food and fine wine, which is clear when you browse through their menu and wine list.

The concept behind the Barossa Siam menu was to create dishes that are all about a balance of flavours – sweet, salty and sometimes a little bit sour. Chuck in a touch of spice from time to time and a great bottle of wine and you’ve got the perfect combo.

With all your Thai favourites on the menu, it’s a constant struggle to narrow the selection down to just a few dishes to share. I don’t think I’ve been there once where my eyes haven’t been bigger than my stomach, but at the end of the day, when the food is that good, I just don’t mind.

Whether you’re after the crispy pork belly in a tantalisingly tasty secret sauce, the classic Thai green curry, or one of the many stir frys, you’re in for a treat. On most menu’s, I’m partial to having a favourite or two, but here I’ve struggled to pick just a few. So rest assured, you can’t go wrong no matter what you pick off the menu.

For all you wine connoisseurs out there, you’ll love the range of wines they have on offer, including a selection of our own Brockenchack favourites. While I’m a firm believer in creating wines that don’t need the aid of food to bring out the full flavour, the combination of their hand selected wines and tasty Thai menu is a winning combo that certainly does both the wines and the food justice!

And if you can manage to fit in any sort of dessert after the feast you’ve just devoured, then you can’t go past the chocolate lava pudding, or the pan fried roti bread with banana and chocolate. Or if you’re after a nightcap, an affogato with norganvaaz vanilla bean ice cream, a shot of coffee and maybe even a dash of Kahlua will have you ending the Barossa Siam dining experience on a high.

Chris and Watcharin have created a unique and flavoursome Thai hub in the heart of Angaston with great service, delicious food, and if it’s not too bias to say so, their selection of wines is 100% on point!

Head on in for lunch or dinner from Wednesday – Sunday, or order in and enjoy their delicious Thai dishes from the comfort of your own home.

Stay tuned for my next Barossa recommendation coming soon…
