2018 D.E.N RESERVE CABERNET SAUVIGNON

Award Winner

One of the best kept Barossa regional secrets is old vine Eden Valley Cabernet Sauvignon!

The Brockenchack 2018 D.E.N single vineyard Reserve Cabernet is a cherry choc bomb from their top of the house block vineyard, near the foot of Peggy’s Hill, smack bang in the middle of the triangle formed by the three Barossa Ranges hamlets; Eden Valley, Flaxman Valley and Mt Mackenzie.

The immediate burst of core lift ripe cherry chocolate surfs on subtle cassis waves, with an ‘split aromatic lift’ of earthy ‘graphitey’ warmth, lifted by floral lavender and violets. Maybe that’s the massive chunks of granite in that part of the world making themselves known, tempered by the long cool high country evenings.

On the palate, the initial lush juicy velvet splashdown of red cherry and berry fruits stretches out over a silky chocolate laced length, tidied either side by some very elegant and integrated French Oak rails, with a touch of peppercorn spice right at the tail end.

It’s powerful stuff with some tremendous ageing potential in the tank, from the 2018 vintage which is already attracting attention as something special.

It's a lovely example of just how classy Cabernet Sauvignon is, up there in the Barossa's cooler regional heights.

This out of the box Eden Valley Cabernet is named ‘D.E.N.’ in dedication to Darren Edward Naylor, a passionate and integral part of our Brockenchack family, father to our grandchildren Mackenzie and Bronte and wine sales specialist. Darren dedicates his time to sharing our family stories around the world and rises to every occasion with sincerity and charm. As Cabernet is Darren’s favourite wine style, we felt it only fitting to name this Reserve edition after him, in thanks for his tireless efforts in building our family’s legacy.
