2019 Vintage Summary:

The 2019 vintage overall produced very high quality, but lower/limited supply, with the Barossa region as a whole down between 50-80% on the prior year, and some vineyards not picking at all. This was due to very hot, dry conditions in January and February. 2019 will be the lowest-yielding Barossa harvest of the past decade. Brockenchack vineyard however was only down 20% due to great care and management in our vineyard. We believe this is attributed to several factors, including the addition of both nutrients and cow and chicken manures, added rotationally to the vines directly and via liquid fertilizer irrigation each year. Good soil moisture kept our vines healthy in the hot spells thanks to irrigating at the right times – in Spring before budding and again at flowering – coupled with our under vine mulching helping to retain this moisture for longer, thereby resulting in healthy crops throughout the rest of the growing season. The result for Brockenchack was an excellent quality, but slightly lower quantity vintage.
